The MolinaCares Accord Grants $100,000 to The Arc of Indiana to Support Independence for Hoosiers with Disabilities

The MolinaCares Accord (“MolinaCares”), in collaboration with Molina Healthcare of Indiana (“Molina”), awarded a $100,000 grant to The Arc of Indiana. Funding will support the organization’s Advocacy Leadership Network, a statewide initiative helping individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) build the skills, confidence, and knowledge to advocate for themselves and others.

The grant funds two virtual curriculum tracks within the Advocacy Leadership Network focused on leadership and advocacy and health and wellness. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in peer discussions, mentoring, as well as learn and practice self-advocacy skills. The Arc anticipates being able to support as many as 100 individuals with IDD in the initial sessions. Additionally, The Arc of Indiana will develop a toolkit intended to share learnings from these curriculums with other states.

“This initiative ensures people with IDD can fully participate in decisions about their lives,” said Kim Dodson, chief executive officer of The Arc of Indiana. “With support from Molina and MolinaCares, we are expanding opportunities for people with IDD in Indiana and building a scalable model to strengthen health and independence.”

Nearly one in five Hoosiers have some form of disability, including about 5% with an intellectual disability. When people with IDD have the tools to set their own goals and make their own decisions, they report higher overall quality of life.

“Building independence requires a long-term multifaceted model, and Molina is proud to support a program built on that approach,” said John Barth, plan president of Molina Healthcare of Indiana. “By partnering with The Arc of Indiana, Molina is improving access to training and resources that help people with IDD understand their strengths, build health literacy, and advocate for better personal health outcomes.”
